Over-water resort accommodations are few and far between; I'm going to tell you where you can find them and how they compare.
Over water bungalows, as they are called in the islands of Tahiti, are typically very Polynesian and simplistic in style, other than a number of brands that put the wow into the bathing areas. These overwater bungalows in Tahiti were made for romantic couples. The biggest decision you will have to make on your vacation is "do I want my water shallow or deep under my overwater bungalow?" In Tahiti, breakfast is included daily.
Both Caribbean and Mexico over-water bungalows boast the fact that they are all-inclusive, so all meals and drinks-both alcoholic and non-alcoholic are included.
Sandals resorts offer over water suites in two different areas of Jamaica - in Montego Bay, very near the airport, which is great for short stays; and on the South Coast, a couple of hours from the airport, a scenic drive over the mountains.Sandals overwater suites are ultra luxurious and go for about $2,500 per night. And they sell out well in advance, so if you haven't yet booked your Valentines getaway, book now for NEXT year!
Mexicos Karisma overwater palafitos are more service oriented, and focus on gourmet, farm-to-table dining. The over-water palafitos are located just 45 minutes South of Cancun on famed Maroma beach.
